Charity Policy
Purpose of Charity Appeals
Cardiff International Airport (CWL) has a policy of working to assist charities as part of our community involvement and corporate social responsibility policies. The main way that CWL can assist is by permitting charity appeal or collections to occur on site or with the endorsement of CWL. CWL receives many requests for fundraising donations and sponsorship every year and whilst we acknowledge all are worthy causes, the airport cannot help all that approach us for help.
CWL has adopted the Velindre Hospital as their designated charity this year but also offers support to other charities seeking assistance, usually by permitting collections at the airport. Other means of raising awareness can be considered at our discretion.
With regard to charities wishing to hold a collection at the airport, this can be arranged by the charity seeking approval well in advance of any proposed collection date. The Airport will at its sole discretion decide the frequency and dates of any collection and may amend dates, cancel or refuse to permit collections at any time.

Who can apply to collect at the Airport?
- An organisation applying must be registered with the Charity
Commission as a registered charity;
- Charities need to have a good track record of charitable
achievement and to be able to particularly show how they have
benefited South Wales and the local community around the airport in
particular;
- Charities need to be able to demonstrate sound financial practices and submit their most recent set of annual accounts.

How are Charities selected?
Once the application form has been filled it will be assessed and considered by CIA who assess the application and, if approved, will in turn contact the relevant charity to confirm dates and procedures to be followed.
Charities which meet the following criteria will be preferred although this does not necessarily exclude others.

The Criteria are:
- Extent of application of the funds raised to the local community;
- Extent of application of the funds within South Wales;
- Relevance to the users of CIA and / or air transport;
- Ability to link with our community activities;
- Ability of willingness to participate in any PR or press coverage for the Airport.

Who makes the decision?
Cardiff International Airport's Charity Committee will make the overall decision on charity support based upon the criteria above and the match with information supplied in your application. CIA will not supply any reasons for non selection and will not enter into any discussions concerning its choice.

How Can a Charity Benefit from Collecting at CWL?
There are various benefits of collecting at Cardiff International Airport which include:
- Giving charities opportunities to raise public awareness about their work;
- Educating and informing a receptive and high profile audience about social issues;
- Providing the public with authoritative information and guidance about causes that seek their support;
