Cardiff International Welcomes Canadian Visitors

Cardiff International Airport welcomed 112 Canadian passengers today (3 May) on board Zoom Airlines' first inbound flight into Wales.

Zoom Airlines' first low-cost scheduled transatlantic flight from Cardiff took to the skies yesterday (2 May) at full capacity on the wide-bodied Boeing 767 and returned to Cardiff today with Toronto originating passengers on board.

Cardiff International Airport's Managing Director Jon Horne explained, "As today's flight was the first from Toronto, it carried only passengers originating from Canada and not those returning to the UK from previous outbound flights.  It is therefore a very significant indicator in respect of the strength of the inbound market to Wales and the attraction of low cost trans-Atlantic scheduled services. 

"We have long believed that the airport is an important gateway into Wales and the development of services such as the Toronto flight by Zoom Airlines only serves to underline this point.  The fact that the very first flight from Toronto carried so many people into Wales is a clear demonstration of what potential does exist for the future.  Zoom's plans to add a Vancouver service in 2006 will be another milestone in the development of Cardiff International Airport and the international accessibility of Wales."

In 2006, the number of long-haul flights from Cardiff will grow to seven, serving five exotic destinations: Cancun, Toronto, Orlando Sanford, Puerto Plata and Vancouver.  The recent Thomsonfly and Zoom Airlines announcements will give Cardiff International Airport the biggest range of long-haul services of any airport West of London and South of Birmingham.

A weekly service from Cardiff to Toronto will operate throughout the months of May and December, with prices starting from £89 one way including taxes.  Premium seats can be booked for an additional £49 each way, offering additional legroom, superior in-flight meals and complimentary drinks for the duration of the flight.  Book on-line at www.flyzoom.comor call 0870 240 0055.
