2,450 Welsh Passengers Discovered Jumbo-Jet Flights To Florida
28 April 2005
75% of seats on new "747" flights from Cardiff International Airport were booked by Welsh travellers.
Welsh passengers have helped ensure the growth of new jumbo-jet flights to Florida.
Figures revealed by Travel City Direct, the UK's biggest independent operator of Florida flights and holidays, reveal that more than 2,450 Welsh passengers booked seats on their first season of Boeing 747 jumbo-jet services to Orlando's Sanford Airport from Cardiff International Airport.
Welsh travellers represented three quarters of all bookings for the jumbo-jet flights from Cardiff - with the remaining 25% originating from the West of England.
According to Jon Horne, Managing Director of Cardiff International Airport, "As an airport capable of handling 747 aircraft, 2,450 people from Wales avoided the need to fly from Gatwick or Heathrow."
Travel City Direct has confirmed their programme of weekly flights, from 25th July to 22nd August for 2005. These flights will run in addition to the existing My Travel programme which will operate from 6th May - 27th October.
Key to the company's appeal is their declared commitment to providing scheduled airline service standards at charter-flight prices. Due to high demand, Travel City Direct has introduced a larger 747-300 series aircraft.
With holiday prices starting from £329pp* for July & August 2005, their Boeing 747 aircraft with seating in four cabins - Economy (offering a charter-beating 32-inch seat pitch), the Sunshine Upper Deck (providing 34-inch seat pitch), the Sunshine Premium Upper Deck (with a 38-inch seat pitch), and Sunshine First (delivering a 50-inch seat pitch).
Up-grade to Sunshine First costs from just £349pp - a fraction of the cost of a Club or First Class seat on mainline scheduled airlines.
"The fact that so many Welsh passengers have made use of this new jumbo-jet service to Florida has helped make the new service a commercial success, and prompted a doubling of 747-flights for this summer's peak season", said Mr Horne.
