Cardiff Airport Welcome Inbound Tourism
02 June 2005
Recent figures from Zoom Airlines reveal that more than 1,400 seats, the equivalent of five full capacity Boeing 767s, have already been sold to passengers originating from Canada visiting Wales via Cardiff International Airport.
Since Zoom Airlines launched their low-cost scheduled transatlantic service from Cardiff International Airport last December, more than 70% of seats have been sold over the summer season which has exceeded all expectations.
Within a week of announcing the service, Zoom Airlines received more than 500 bookings triggering a huge response from people in Wales, the West of England and Canada.
Cardiff International Airport managing director Jon Horne explains, "Cardiff International is not only an airport from which people travel from but increasingly, plays a role as gateway for people to enter Wales. To see such a large number of inbound passengers making good use of Zoom's low-cost service, clearly demonstrates the strength and potential of the inbound market to Wales.
"We are working hard to secure long-haul routes from Cardiff International Airport and delighted that Zoom Airlines' service is proving extremely successful. With Zoom also introducing a Vancouver service from Cardiff in 2006, this will be yet another important milestone in the development of the airport and will reinforce the airport as a means of accessing Wales."
Cardiff International now has the biggest range of long-haul
services of any airport West of London and South of Birmingham,
serving a total of seven flights to five exotic destinations:
Cancun, Toronto, Orlando Sanford, Puerto Plata and Vancouver.
With the new station 'Rhoose Cardiff International Airport' set to open on Monday 12 June and the Welsh Assembly Government's plans to improve road access to the airport, all these developments will aid in increasing the accessibility, attractiveness and appeal of Cardiff International Airport to inward investors and new airlines.
With prices starting from £89 one way including taxes, you can book your Zoom flight at www.flyzoom.com or by calling 0870 240 0055.
