Aer Arann to launch French route from Cardiff

Aer Arann, Ireland's premier regional airline, today announced that it will begin operating a new service from Cardiff to Lorient in South Brittany, France from 17th May 2006.

The airline will operate two flights per week on the route departing Lorient at 5.20pm on Wednesday and 10.50am on Saturday with the return flight departing Cardiff at 6.10pm on Wednesday and 11.40am on Saturday with a flight time of 1 hour and 35 minutes.   The service will be operated by a 66 seater ATR 72 aircraft. 

Aer Arann is one of the fastest growing regional airlines in Europe with a turnover in excess of €94 million and projected passenger numbers of 1.2 million for 2006.  The airline currently operates over 600 flights per week across 20 UK, 5 Irish and 7 French routes.  Today's announcement will bring the number of routes in the network to thirty five for the summer season. 

Commenting on the announcement Micheal O'Callarain, Marketing Manager Aer Arann said "We are delighted to be adding Cardiff Lorient to our network of European routes.  Brittany is an extremely popular French destination for UK passengers and Lorient is very well located as a touring base for this area.  Rennes, St Malo, Nantes, Mont St Michel and Brest are just some of the major centres within a comfortable two-hour drive of the airport.   We believe there is considerable untapped demand from Wales to the regions of Brittany and look forward to working with Cardiff Airport to develop the service."
