FIRST EVER AIR LINK BETWEEN WALES AND THE WEST COAST OF CANADA TAKES-OFF
10 June 2006
The first transatlantic air link between Wales and the West Coast of Canada took off on Saturday 10 June 2006 from Cardiff International Airport.
Zoom Airlines' inaugural flight from Cardiff to Vancouver departed at 10.30am, launching a low-cost full scheduled service to the West Coast that will revolutionise transatlantic travel for the whole of Wales and the West of England.
The new Cardiff to Vancouver service departs weekly on a Saturday, offering the lowest scheduled airfares across the Atlantic with prices starting from £129 one-way plus tax.
Zoom is the only airline offering flights to Canada from Cardiff International Airport all-year-round and the only airline to be offering a choice of Canadian destinations throughout the summer months. Zoom launched its Cardiff to Toronto route last summer and with the outstanding success of this service, expanded into the winter months, providing year-round flights to the popular city of Toronto.
Launching the service today (Saturday), Debbie Marshall, UK Director of Zoom Airlines, said: "Vancouver is a vibrant city and has been a very popular destination serviced by Zoom since we started operating flights from the UK to Canada back in 2004. I am delighted to be expanding our service offering from Cardiff International, with our low-cost high quality Canada flights proving to be a huge success with the Welsh travelling public."
Jon Horne, Managing Director, Cardiff International Airport, said: "Wales' first direct air link to the Pacific seaboard will have a far-reaching impact on both leisure and business travel. Zoom have already demonstrated an ability to generate two-way tourism between Canada and Wales with their Toronto service. Now there is potential not only for Vancouver itself but also for nearby US cities like Seattle. We are proud to support such a professional and ambitious airline at Cardiff International."
Premium seats are available on all Zoom flights and can be booked from an additional £99 each way on the Vancouver service, offering additional legroom, superior in-flight meals and complimentary drinks for the duration of your flight.
