First new holiday flights emerge for 2007
03 July 2006
As Cardiff International Airport reports record passenger numbers for 2006, leisure airlines are already announcing even more flights from the capital for summer 2007.
Both Excel Airways and First Choice are planning to add Kos to their Cardiff networks next summer, the first time this Greek island has been served directly from Wales.
Currently in its first year of operation at Cardiff, Excel is demonstrating further confidence in the strength of Wales and the West's travel market by adding summer 07 services to Monastir in Tunisia, a route pioneered by low cost airline Thomsonfly this year.
First Choice has announced flights from Cardiff to the Portuguese island of Madeira and to Heraklion on the Mediterranean island of Crete. The airline is also planning to enter the popular Cardiff - Ibiza market with a mid-week flight, contributing to a projected seven flights a week to the "party island" next summer.
The Balearic Islands of Ibiza, Menorca and Majorca are the most requested holiday destinations from Cardiff International by the Welsh public.
Managing director Jon Horne said: "Holiday choices are important
to the Welsh lifestyle. More flights and new destinations support
this element of choice, as well as guaranteeing jobs at and around
the airport."
