Award-winning airlines at Cardiff International
13 October 2006
Two airlines serving Cardiff International Airport passengers have been recognised in the European Regions Airline Association's (ERA) prestigious awards.
Eastern Airways was named Europe's number one regional airline 2006/7 ahead of 65 other airline members at the awards ceremony in Barcelona in association with the ERA's annual General Assembly with 500 airlines' delegates and international press.
The independent airline, which celebrates its ninth anniversary this year, continues to launch and develop niche routes in a heavily competed UK market. It currently operates over 800 flights a week across 26 routes including Cardiff - Newcastle and gained the most recognised airline award for this sector of industry after two consecutive years of silver awards in 2003/4 and 2004/5.
Having also featured in these awards over several years, Aer Arann was given the Association's Palme d'Or, a special honour presented in recognition of sustained excellence and high business performance over an extended period.
Aer Arann flies from Cardiff to Dublin, Cork and Galway in Ireland plus Lorient, Brittany, during the summer season.
