Customs seize £0.3 million cocaine at Cardiff International Airport
11 March 2005
About five kilos of cocaine, with a street value of around £300,000, was found in passengers baggage by Customs Officers at Cardiff International Airport yesterday, 10 March 2005.
Customs spokesman for Wales, Bob Gaiger said: "This was an
excellent detection by the Customs officers working at the airport.
Customs continuing vigilance has prevented this cocaine from
reaching its destination.
"We will continue to work to the Government's aim of reducing the
availability of class 'A' drugs. Cardiff Airport should not been
seen as a soft touch by smugglers."
Three passengers from Lagos, Nigeria - 61 year old Obolohan Ayodeji
ODUNLAMI (male), 49 year old Maria Olufunmilayo ODUNLAMI and a 17
year old girl - have been arrested in connection with the find, and
were charged with illegally importing a Class A drug late yesterday
evening.
The three landed yesterday morning at Cardiff International Airport
on a KLM flight from Amsterdam, having travelled there from Lagos,
Nigeria.
They were remanded in custody overnight and are due to appear at
Barry Magistrates Court this morning. Customs' enquiries are
continuing.
