Cardiff International Airport Appoints new Marketing and Communications Head
01 September 2005
Cardiff International Airport has recruited an industry expert to head its marketing and communications activity as part of management changes.
Peter Phillips will join the airport team on 17th
October in the new role of Head of Marketing and Communications.
Peter is currently advisor on Corporate Communications for the
European Regions Airlines Association (ERA) and Managing Editor of
ERA Communications Limited, the association's publishing arm which
he founded.
Prior to joining ERA in 2003 Peter had undertaken a number of major
roles in air transport and airports around the world.
For 11 years, Peter represented Amsterdam Airport Schiphol's
marketing communications interests in the UK. He was also
responsible for global marketing and communication for the
Amsterdam Airport Area economic development partnership, which
became the EU's market leading location for European headquarters
for overseas companies.
At the Schiphol-managed Brisbane Airport, Australia, Peter handled
the re-engineering of corporate communications as the company moved
from a Government-owned to a commercial organisation.
He proposed and planned Australia TradeCoast, now home to around
7,600 businesses and the fastest growing industry and trade
precinct in Australia.
On his return to Wales from overseas, Peter received a "Merlin"
business award from Prime Cymru for his work in developing new
media opportunities before joining ERA, where he created and ran
the 70-airline industry group's publishing company and advised
management on strategic communications and commercial exploitation
of new media.
Peter lives in Pembrey, Carmarthenshire, with his wife, Narva, and
daughter Georgia.
Commenting on the news of Peter's appointment, Jon Horne, Managing
Director of Cardiff International Airport said: "This is great news
for the airport as we move into an exciting phase in our
development. We are on the verge of some fundamental changes and
developments and being able to secure someone of Peter's calibre at
this time is fantastic for us. He has wide experience in the field
of communications, marketing and brand development, all of which
are key tools for the next stage in the airport's
development."
Speaking about his appointment, Peter Phillips commented: "Change
is sweeping across the European travel industry and Cardiff
International Airport is well positioned to benefit as a
consequence. Jon Horne's team will face some fascinating, strategic
challenges and I'm excited to be a part of this
progression."
