New hotels help prices to fall at Cardiff International Airport
21 February 2006
Hotel prices around Cardiff International and Leeds Bradford airports are alone in bucking the trend for regional airport hotels prices to rise, according to a new cost-watch survey.
Liverpool's John Lennon Airport topped the league for increases
in hotel rates (rising by 10%), on the back of being named European
Capital of Culture 2008, said the authors of the survey, BTI
UK.
Next highest price rises were for hotels serving Bristol and
Edinburgh airports, which BTI UK say relfects the fact that no new
hotels have opened around Bristol International Airport, while
demand in Edinburgh was boosted by the city hosting the G8 Summit
and the Live8 concert.
The survey points out that Cardiff and Leeds were the only two of
13 city airports monitored, to achieve a hotel price reduction. A
3% dip in airport hotel prices around Cardiff International
reflects the greater capacity and competition created by the
opening of new hotels in 2005, according to the new survey.
Peter Phillips, Head of Marketing & Communications at Cardiff
International Airport, said: "The opening of a new Holiday
Inn Express alongside the airport has added to that advantage,
while there are plans for at least two more new hotels close to the
airport.
"We, and our passengers, are more fortunate than many regional
airports in having a growing number of well-priced hotels within
easy reach of our terminal", said Mr Phillips.
