Early lift for Cardiff travellers
15 March 2006
February, a traditionally quiet month for travel, this year saw Cardiff International Airport passenger numbers rise by 13 per cent overall.
The increase to over 100,000 passengers came a month before more air services become available from the capital, suggesting that the Welsh travel marketplace is growing.
From the end of March to mid-May, new routes are to be launched to destination like Manchester, Newquay, Lorient and Rennes, together with extra frequencies to cities such as Amsterdam and a new range of holiday destinations.
Said Cardiff International Airport managing director Jon Horne:
"We will probably see an overall percentage increase in double
figures for this past winter, largely based on existing services.
Extra choice and heightened competition over the coming summer mean
it is likely to be the busiest season in the airport's
history."
