Lounge Grows as Airport Passengers Increase
28 June 2006
The 51 Degree Executive Lounge has doubled in size in response to increasing demand.
Part of Cardiff International Airport's rolling £7 million investment in facilities and capacity, the 51 Degree Executive Lounge has doubled in size in response to increasing demand.
The facility was officially opened by Eastern Airways managing director Richard Lake, who poured a glass of Champagne for everyone he found in the lounge when he arrived.
Eastern is one of a number of airlines whose passengers have access to the lounge, which now features a "club"-style seating area and provides an array of services for frequent travellers.
The airport's investments for 2006 began earlier this year with enhanced air traffic control facilities and new aircraft parking areas. Still to come are an international arrivals pier and new enlarged immigration hall on the ground floor, baggage retrieval facilities and a pier/walkway connecting the new aircraft parking to the terminal.
Said Cardiff International Airport managing director Jon Horne: "This work is part of our project to increase the capacity of facilities to meet rapidly growing passenger demand and to improve the quality of the overall passenger experience. We expect more than two million passengers to use the terminal this year.
"Work is progressing well although, inevitably, there is a measure of disruption. Generally we have found passengers to be understanding and patient."
