Route appointment at CWL
25 August 2006
Spencer Birns (33) has joined fast-growing Cardiff International Airport (CWL) as Head of Aviation Relationships to spearhead the airport's route development activity. He joins Cardiff from the aviation development team at Manchester Airport.
He will work closely with airlines to identify and develop routes and capacity from the Welsh capital, which has experienced over 12 per cent growth in passenger numbers so far this year.
Born in South Africa, Spencer brings with him a wealth of experience gained over 12 years with the My Travel tour operating group and Manchester Airport.
"Cardiff is one of Europe's fastest-growing capital cities. Thanks to partnerships with Government, tourism and economic development, the future looks bright for both leisure and business travel from the airport. I am looking forward to playing a part in their development," said Spencer.
The airport's Managing Director Jon Horne commented: "Spencer's appointment represents further strengthening and specialisation in our team. He brings into play a large network of contacts and a thorough understanding of the needs of airlines and tour operators."
