Thousands of rugby fans travel through the airport
07 October 2007
October 5 - 7 was an extremely busy weekend at Cardiff International Airport as an additional 4,000 passengers travelled through the terminals.
35 extra flights were provided to carry the two-way traffic. Hundreds of rugby enthusiasts came to enjoy the exciting World Cup Quarter Final between France and New Zealand at the Millennium Stadium and, in addition, scores of Welsh fans jetted off to Marseille for the fixture between Fiji and South Africa.
The additional passengers meant demands were high, but Servisair ground handlers, working in conjunction with the airport and control authorities, took the extra numbers in their stride ensuring that all operations went smoothly.
Speaking of their success Luke Endsor, Station Manager for Servisair at Cardiff comments: "Due to our large network in the UK we were lucky that we could call upon colleagues from elsewhere to help us through the peak period. I'm very proud of the Servisair team for their hard work and dedication."
The extra traffic included prestigious guests such as Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, the President and Prime Minister of France, both the jubilant French rugby team and disappointed New Zealand team.
