Getting to/from the airport during the Heineken Cup Final weekend.
New measures will be introduced at Cardiff Airport for
passengers travelling to the Heineken Cup final held at the
Millennium Stadium on 24 May 2008.
Approximately 10,000 additional passengers are expected to travel
through the airport from Friday to Sunday, with a total of 100
extra flights operating throughout the weekend.
Charter passengers arriving at the airport for the Heineken Cup
final on Saturday morning will be directed to the Long Stay 2 Car
Park, where coaches will be waiting to transfer the travelling fans
from the airport to the city centre.
To find your coach in the Long Stay 2 Car Park please look
for your flight number in the front windows of the
coaches.
The coaches will transfer the travelling fans to Taff Embankment,
the nearest available drop-off point to the Millennium
Stadium.
On the return journey, charter passengers will be picked up at Taff
Embankment, getting them to the airport 75 minutes prior to their
flight departure, allowing ample time to travel through the airport
as most travellers will have hand luggage only and will already be
in possession of a boarding card.
Coaches when they leave Cardiff will stop at the Barry
Comprehensive School for Boys on Port Road. Using the school
as a coach holding area will avoid potential congestion at the
airport if too many coaches disembark passengers at the same time.
Refreshments and toilet facilities will be provided at the
school
All bus drivers will be provided with maps and detailed information
by Cardiff County Council before the event and representatives from
the Council and the airport will be on hand at Taff Embankment and
at the airport car park. Additional security personnel, handling
agents and airport staff have also been recruited to deal with the
additional numbers at the airport itself.
Passengers travelling on scheduled flights to the airport are required to find their own way into the city centre. Plenty of options are available, including taxis and hourly bus and train services. Click here for more information on how to get to and from the airport, and for details on how to book a taxi.
Repeating the highly successful operation conducted when the
Heineken Cup final was last held in Cardiff in 2006, and by working
closely with Cardiff Council, the coach companies involved, the
Heineken Cup organisers and our partners at the airport we're
confident that this year will yet again prove to be a smooth and
seamless operation on behalf of Cardiff Airport.
We ask travelling fans to work with us to ensure everything
goes to plan on the day, and wish both teams the best of
luck!
