Airport road system changes
11 March 2008
From 11th March 2008 drivers will be able to drop-off passengers outside the terminal building at Cardiff International Airport, making access to the airport more convenient.
Pick-up of passengers will still take place in the short stay car park. This is to comply with Department for Transport (DfT) regulations forbidding unattended or waiting vehicles outside any airport terminal building in the UK.
The first 20 minutes in the short stay car park will still be free of charge for those wishing to meet and pick up arriving passengers.
New signs and security measures have been installed to inform passengers of the new systems. Approaching the airport, drivers will be directed into one dedicated lane leading to the short stay car park. A second lane will lead to the 'drop off' area directly in front of the terminal.
Buses will be able to drop-off and pick-up passengers from the bus stop outside the terminal building as before, leaving the airport from the east side, enabling them to avoid congestion.
Graeme Gamble, Director of Operations at Cardiff International, commented: "Our aim is to make the airport as passenger friendly as possible, and the new road access is a welcome step forward for the passenger experience."
The changes, following guidelines set by the Department for Transport (DfT), are part TBI-abertis' continuing investment at the airport.
