Cardiff to Cornwall - Skybus' Newquay route takes off!
Skybus, Cornwall's longest serving airline, took to the skies today on its inaugural fight from Cardiff International Airport to Newquay, Cornwall's surf capital. The bad weather on Monday resulted in the postponement of what was scheduled to be the first flight. Improved weather conditions have now allowed the service to begin.
To make online booking even easier the airline has also launched their new website: www.skybus.co.uk complete with full Welsh language translations making online booking quick and easy.
Jeff Marston, Chief Executive of Skybus said: "We have been looking at expanding our service and entering new markets for some time. The Cardiff to Newquay route is the perfect development for our service.
"We know that the route has been really popular in the past, with another carrier managing the route during 2005 through until the start of 2007. We are delighted to be able to reinstate the route and offer a convenient, reliable and quick service for the people of Wales and Cornwall."
The re introduction of the service will enable people to fly direct from Cardiff to Newquay in just 40 minutes. The short flight time and scheduling will mean that Cornwall is even more accessible for weekend breaks. It is expected that Cardiff will also be a popular destination with the people of Cornwall looking for a weekend shopping break.
Graeme Gamble, Director of Operations at Cardiff International Airport said: "We welcome the return of the Cardiff - Cornwall connection which has proved very popular in the past. The Skybus service offers travellers a real alternative to the long journeys by rail and road and saves them a tremendous amount of time, with the flight lasting no more than 40 minutes.
"The re introduction of the route is excellent news for the Welsh leisure industry and for our business sector. Improving linkages between Wales and Cornwall is a great way to develop our economy through year round business."
