James Fox at the airport
06 May 2008
Cardiff International Airport celebrated raising over four thousand pounds for Velindre Cancer Centre by inviting Fame Academy star James Fox to sing in the terminal.
The Airport adopted Velindre as their charity of the year for 2007 / 08 and the culmination of the efforts has resulted in a generous donation to the largest cancer centre in Wales. Fox, one of the patrons of the charity teamed up with Cardiff City FC, also an official supporter of the charity, and Cardiff International Airport to celebrate the event.
Velindre Hospital has been providing support and care to cancer patients in South Wales for over 50 years. The centre is the largest non - surgical cancer hospital in Wales providing Radiotherapy, Chemotherapy and other specialised treatments. During 2006/07 Velindre provided care and treatment for over 60,000 day case and regular attendees and over 35,000 outpatient attendees.
Andrew Morris Head of Fundraising at Velindre said "We have been delighted with the support from everyone concerned with the Airport. We had arranged to present a certificate of thanks and thought that it would be very appropriate for one of patrons - James Fox to make the presentation on our behalf, to express our gratitude for everyone's efforts.
James's new CD, The Official Cardiff City FA Cup Final song Flying High is proving very popular, and what more appropriate place for James to play Flying High than at Cardiff international Airport?"
