Busy bank holiday ahead
22 August 2008
Cardiff Airport is expecting a busy August bank holiday, with approximately 32,000 passengers expected to travel through its doors over the bank holiday weekend; proving once again that the national airport is becoming the first choice for even more Welsh passengers.
This has been fuelled by a 6% increase in seat capacity over the same period in 2007 especially on key domestic routes such as Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle and Belfast.
As weather forecasts for the UK are less than encouraging, a growing number of people are choosing to get away from Cardiff for their summer sun.
Top five destinations are:
·Palma Mallorca
· Amsterdam
·Alicante
·Edinburgh
·Malaga
The Airport is also expecting a number of inbound passengers travelling to Cardiff for the long weekend and particularly for the Madonna concert at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday.
Head of Aviation Relations Spencer Birns commented, "Our increased flight programme and expanding capacity on routes has stimulated more passengers travelling through Cardiff which we want to build on for 2009.
Staff at the airport are prepared to cope with the increase in traffic over the weekend, and we aim to give everyone heading off on a bank holiday getaway a stress-free and enjoyable experience whilst at Cardiff Airport."
