Champagne to celebration at 51º Lounge
20 November 2008
Cardiff International Airport's executive lounge welcomed the one hundred thousandth passenger through its doors today (19 November).
Mrs Gaenor Howells on her way to Paphos was given a bottle of
champagne to mark the occasion, and said: "I've used the lounge
many times before and the service is tremendous - even without the
champagne! Whenever you come in the staff are polite and courteous,
and will always go out of their way to assist you in any way they
can."
The airport's 51º Executive Lounge was first opened in October
2003, and has since welcomed many famous names, including Gordon
Brown, Tom Jones, Charlotte Church, Gavin Henson, Ryan Giggs,
Westlife, John Toshack, Gareth Edwards, Myleene Klass and Jonah
Lomu.
Expansion work was carried out in 2005 to double the size of the
lounge and to provide a quiet area for passengers looking to relax
in peace before jetting off.
Patrick Duffy, the airport's managing director commented: "It is no
surprise that the airport's executive lounge has proved extremely
popular with our customers as it provides a first class, affordable
service.
Although the executive lounge is used by business travellers, with
a large proportion returning to use it every time they fly, a
growing number of leisure passengers are also enjoying the benefits
of checking in. With daily membership available for a surprisingly
modest charge it's an excellent way to start your trip from Cardiff
Airport."
A day's membership to the lounge costs from £10, with some airlines
offering the lounge to their business class passengers free of
charge. Business facilities such as fax, photocopier, telephone and
wireless internet access are also available, as well as a wide
screen TV relaying the latest news, together with a the selection
of newspapers and magazines. Members are also entitled to alcoholic
and non-alcoholic drinks, light bites and fresh fruit. Special
assistance facilities are available for passengers requiring this
service and it should be noted that children under the age of 12
are not permitted to enter the lounge.
